Fire hoods are a requirement for all in-ceiling speakers that are installed below habitable rooms or within a location of access or escape, such as a landing or hallway. Cutting large holes in ceilings for ceiling speakers destroys the fire barrier, and under UK Building Regulations the installer is responsible for maintaining that barrier when fitting any equipment.
