Speakers with larger drive units are generally capable of producing lower frequencies and more bass than those with small drive units. Typically a full range speaker will have a 6" - 8" mid/bass driver, whereas a more compact speaker might sacrifice some bass response in favour of a smaller or slimmer design. Small drive unit speakers are often paired with subwoofers to provide low frequency reinforcement, and some also employ multiple small drive units to achieve a better compromise between size and performance. But despite some clever technology, when it comes to bass, size really does matter!
